Flame is always present during wax play, and the margins for burns depend on wax type, pour angle, distance from skin, and body location. Beeswax and paraffin have meaningfully different melt points; soy runs cooler. Keep any flame source away from hair and flammable surfaces, and have a cloth or cool water immediately accessible.

The practice of dripping hot wax from a candle onto a partner's skin. The sensation ranges from warm and diffuse to sharp and stinging depending on the candle type, the height it is held from, and the sensitivity of the area. Purpose-made massage candles burn at lower temperatures and are the recommended starting point; standard paraffin and beeswax candles reach much higher temperatures and carry a real risk of burns.
