Strappado places acute stress on the shoulder joints, tendons, and the brachial plexus. Nerve damage from overextension can develop mid-position without obvious warning signs and may not be immediately apparent. Careful attention to shoulder angle and duration is essential, and the position must be released instantly at any sign of numbness, tingling, or unusual weakness.
A bondage position in which the arms are bound behind the back and then raised, causing the person to lean forward under the strain. Creates a combination of helplessness and sustained physical stress. Puts significant pressure on the shoulder joints and should be approached carefully — particularly at any degree of elevation.
