A Japanese style of rope bondage that emphasizes pattern, symmetry, and aesthetic intention. In Western kink communities the word is used broadly to describe Japanese-influenced rope work. Many practitioners are drawn to it as much for the meditative quality of the process as for the physical sensation of restraint.
