A single sleeve, also called a monoglove, that encases both arms together from wrist to upper arm behind the back, drawing the limbs into a single bound column and creating significant extension through the shoulders and chest. The armbinder is one of the more visually dramatic restraint devices in BDSM, producing a posture of openness in the front of the body that many people find aesthetically striking and psychologically powerful.

The restraint produced by a well-fitted armbinder is comprehensive. With both arms joined and pulled behind the back, the person wearing it has essentially no capacity for self-rescue and very limited ability to adjust their position independently. That total dependence on their partner is central to the appeal for many. The device makes the power dynamic concrete and inescapable in a way that more adjustable restraints don't.

The physical demands of an armbinder should not be underestimated. Shoulder anatomy varies considerably between individuals, and the extension required ranges from mild to extreme depending on the design and how deeply the arms are drawn into it. People with any history of shoulder injury, hypermobility, or impingement should approach this with particular care. The brachial plexus, the nerve cluster running through the shoulder and into the arm, is under sustained pressure in this position, and nerve issues can develop without dramatic warning signs.

Fit matters more with an armbinder than with most restraint devices. One that is too tight across the arms will restrict circulation; too loose and it shifts in ways that place uneven stress on the joints. Time limits should be established before use and observed. Regular check-ins throughout the scene, specifically asking about sensation in the hands and fingers, are a practical minimum, not an optional courtesy. Aftercare for the shoulders and arms after removal is worth building explicitly into the plan.
